India in the 19th century..!!

India in the 19th century was very different than it is now. Looking at the old photographs of the old India, it is quite evident that India has surely made progress up till now.

1. Bara Imambara

Bara Imambara

Muharram was generally conducted in Imambaras in Lucknow. This is the popular Bara Imambara in Lucknow as in 1860.

2. Moti Mahal

Moti Mahal

This is Lucknow’s Moti Mahal in 1874. According to some, it was built for purposes of defence.

3. Pontoon Bridge

Pontoon Bridge

Pontoon bridge was built in 1874 on Hooghly river in Kolkata. However, in 1943, this floating bridge got replaced by the famous Howrah Bridge.

4. Red Fort

This is red fort in Delhi as in 1857, after the uprising.

5. Zebra Cart

Zebra Cart

Have you ever seen a zebra cart? The streets of Kolkata have witnessed the zebras pulling the carriage.

This is just a glimpse of India in the old days. It feels really exciting when one explores and compares the old and new India..!!
